How can hashtags help my organisation’s online campaigning?

  1. Hashtags are searchable thus giving your community direct access to a user-friendly digital library of your resources, campaigns and advocacy work.
  2. People don’t donate to organisations, people donate to people. Using hashtags that are relevant and branded can make your organisation seem approachable, credible and relatable.
  3. Hashtags allow you to reach beneficiaries that may be too scared or embarrassed to contact you face-to-face.
  4. Hashtags encourage online engagement and can be included almost everywhere for example: When posting a job vacancy, finish off your job advert with “to find out more about our organisation please visit [insert your branded hashtag].” This will encourgae potential job seekers to actively search for your organisation online and engage with your content if they find it relevant.
  5. Hashtags allow your organisation to remain updated with the latest industry news and trends as they are searchable listening tools. An example: Search the hashtag #orangetheworld and see what content shows – are you able to find new organisations speaking about 16 Days of Activism? Are you able to find new GBV resources and tools?
  6. When used correctly, a well-branded hashtag with relevant content attached will help your organisation raise awareness and even conduct research online.
